A very interesting project, emphasising Dene’s eternal desire to take on tricky subjects and create something broadly entertaining and effective. The initial brief was to create a documentary highlighting the pensions available through the rpmi scheme. However, Dene’s Chris Chapman returned to the client and pitched a big, bright and ambitious short film concept – of an elderly couple returning from the future (Terminator-style) to convince their younger selves into changing their lifestyles (and getting a pension sorted!). This film was accompanied by several mock behind the scenes featurettes (filmed alongside the main feature) highlighting the details of the various schemes that are available.
The result must surely be the most enjoyable film about pensions ever made, featuring as it does old men with big guns, tour parties trapped in giant bubbling force fields and deadly futuristic toilet cleaner! Director Steven Boyle gives proceedings a sense of class, and special effects courtesy of Dene’s Mark Lediard and Dylan Wynne make this an eye-catching and highly original way of tackling a traditionally dry subject.
