London 2012: Time to Compete
Corporate

A project which played with a corporate brief to create something in the vein of a dynamic, engaging television programme – with particular praise required for presenter Steve Cram, who probably got more than he bargained for! Dene’s Chris Chapman was commissioned by One North East to direct and produce a short film, which would encourage local businesses to tender for work contracts at London 2012.

With someone as active and game as Steve Cram on board as presenter, Chris decided to push the boat out in terms of getting his presenter right in the thick of it. Despite the business focus, this had to be a film about sport – one that could excite with the sheer spectacle and potential of the games. Thus, Steve Cram found himself giving presenter links whilst white-water rafting at the Tees Barrage! Access was also gained to film at Newcastle’s St James’ Park (where Peter Beardsley was interviewed about the stadium’s plans for 2012), the Sunderland Aquatic Centre (where underwater cameras were used to get the action right into the pool) and the athletics track at Gateshead Stadium.

The exciting and fast-paced feel of the film creates something extremely watchable – with Steve’s natural delivery and interview style making this a really effective and enjoyable piece of communication.
